What's New at the Martyrs' Shrine!
NOW OPEN FOR THE SUMMER The Martyrs' Shrine is now OPEN FOR THE 2009 SEASON. Our first day open will be Saturday, May 16 2009. Please note the mass schedule and our pilgrimage schedule.
THE SHRINE CAFE Be sure to check with us at (705) 526-3788 for all your food and beverage needs while you or your group is at the Shrine.
NEW PRODUCTS Once again this year we are offering our pilgrims the opportunity to purchase a special Shrine calendar. The thirteen month calendar is beautifully decorated with pictures of the Shrine grounds and various pilgrimages. It sells for only $10 (tax is included).
Our interactive Educational CD is available for purchase. The price for the CD is $15 (tax is included). It contains a wealth of information about the Canadian Martyrs and the Huron peoples they came to serve. The CD also contains lesson plans and suggested activities for use in the classroom.
Our Shrine video is also be available for purchase through the Shrine gift shop priced at $15 (tax included). The run time of the video is 25 minutes. The video highlights the lives and times of the Canadain Martyrs and how their lives and actions still impact our lives today.
THE MARTYRSÂ’ FEAST DAY The feast day of the Canadian Martyrs will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009. There will be a special mass held at 2:00 p.m. in the Shrine Church. The celebrant and homilist for the mass will be Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, S.J. the Archbishop of Ottawa. This event will be followed by light refreshments in the Filion Centre.
WALK WHERE THEY WALKED During the months of May, June, September and October the Shrine will be hosting a variety of schools on the program called Walk Where They Walked. The program is either a full morning or afternoon here at the Shrine. During their time with us they will have a number of talks on the lives of the Martyrs. They will view the new Shrine video and will have an indepth tour of the Shrine Church and grounds.
ROSARY SUNDAY This year's Rosary Sunday will be held on Sunday, September 20th, 2009. Our celebration begins with a 12:00 noon mass at the Polish Altar. It is this event's 25th anniversary! The mass will be celebrated by Father Alex Kirsten, S.J. Director of the Martyrs' Shrine. The presider and homilist at the Living Rosary will be Archbishop Thomas Collins, of the Archdiocese of Toronto.
The procession of the Blessed Sacrament and the statue of Our Lady of Fatima will begin at 2:00 p.m. The Fourth Degree assembly of the Knights will form an honour guard to lead the procession. Several Catholic Women's Leagues and many other participants will also take part in the procession.
PILGRIMAGE DATE CHANGE
Please note that the Slovenian Pilgrimage has changed their pilgrimage date from September 5th to September 13 for this season.
